Balsam or Silver Fir Essential Oil

Latin Name: Abies balsamica, Abies sibirica

It is no wonder that the scent of fir essential oil produces a flood of warm memories for many people. Its sweetly resinous fragrance has a powerfully calming effect on the mind and body. Few people realize that fir has been used for centuries for its medicinal qualities!

Fir trees are found throughout much of the world, often in mountainous areas. Native people of these regions have historically harvested fir needles for their medicinal properties and for religious ceremonies. Balsam fir essential oil is steam distilled from the needles and twigs, while Silver Fir is steam distilled from only the needles. You would have a hard time distinguishing between the scent of these two oils. Their therapeutic uses are interchangeable.
